Tire Selection:
Load Capacity: The load index of the tire indicates the maximum weight it can carry. The total weight of your caravan (including passengers and cargo) must not exceed this value. Example: For a caravan weighing 2.5 tons, tires with a load index of at least 109 should be selected.
Tire Type: Three tire types commonly used on motorhomes are:
Light Truck Tires (LT): Suitable for light and medium weight caravans.
Caravan Tires (ST): These are tires with higher load capacity, designed specifically for caravans.
Passenger Vehicle Tires (P): Can be used on small and light motorhomes, but are not as durable as LT or ST tires.
Seasonal Conditions: In the summer months, tires resistant to hotter weather should be preferred, and in the winter months, winter tires that provide grip on snow and ice should be preferred. Example: If you are traveling by caravan in winter, it is important that you use winter tires or snow chains marked M+S.
Speed Class: The speed class of the tire indicates its maximum safe speed. Tires with a speed class higher than the maximum speed of your caravan should be chosen. Example: For a caravan with a maximum speed of 110 km/h, tires with a speed class of at least S (180 km/h) should be selected.
Tire Pattern: Different tire patterns are available to suit different road conditions. Example: For driving on muddy and rocky terrains, you can choose off-road tires that provide mud and rock grip.
Air pressure:
Correct air pressure extends the life of tires and optimizes roadholding and fuel economy.
Air pressure should always be checked on cold tires and adjusted to the manufacturer's recommended value.
Different air pressure values may be required for different axles.
Air pressure should be checked regularly (at least once a month).
Insufficient air pressure causes tire wear, reduced road holding and increased fuel consumption.
Excessive air pressure can cause the tire to harden and reduce road grip.
