Winter awning is an awning specially designed for low temperatures and heavy snowfall. These awnings are 'partial awnings' that only cover a portion of the caravan's outer wall. That's why we consider the "width", not the circumference. In order for the winter awning to be horizontal, the caravan must have a "flat rail" of this width.
The materials are stronger and heavier. Winter awnings, as a rule, have a steel joint with a diameter of 25 mm or even 28 mm. Despite this robustness, it must be properly installed, supported and snow-free.
Why a winter awning?
Winter awnings are much smaller than summer models. It is indeed designed to serve as an access lock in front of the caravan door or a small storage room for skis, sledges and ski gear.
Because most campers cook outside the vehicle due to odors, most models still have room for a small piece of furniture or a cooking appliance.
What are the dimensions of a winter awning?
Winter awnings, which are shallower than travel and seasonal awnings, can be used from a depth of 1.50 m. Therefore, the slope of the roof is greater, which allows the snow to slide faster. This eliminates the risk of collapse under the weight of the snow. Winter awnings are available in 2m widths. The largest models reach 4 m, which is already significant.
Awning buying tip:
Before you buy a winter awning, consider why you want to use it :
Just as an air shelter? In this case, a small compact model is sufficient.
Do you also want to cook under the awning or have fondue ? In this case, we recommend a larger model.
Awnings with a roof around them have the following advantage: Water dripping from the roof does not slide onto the front wall and does not freeze in winter, but drips directly onto the ground.
